Dr. Silverman received her graduate training from Teacher's College, Columbia University and The University of Hartford. While pursuing her master’s at Columbia in NYC, she held many different positions including being a research assistant at Montefiore Medical Center, Mount Sinai's Eating and Weight Program, and a volunteer for piloting the Body Project with the National Eating Disorder Association (NEDA). When she moved to CT to pursue her doctorate, she worked at several eating disorder treatment centers, including Walden Behavioral Care and The Center for Discovery. It was at these placements she began to specialize her care in athletes, working with numerous collegiate athletes in treatment during their breaks. Throughout her doctoral training, she had the opportunity to train at numerous practicum sites including college counseling centers, a military base, a forensic inpatient unit, an academic medical center, and private practice. Her experiences at Yale School of Medicine's Eating and Weight Program, UConn's counseling center, UMass's counseling center, Whiting Forensic Hospital, and The United States Coast Guard Academy offered her different opportunities to strengthen her areas of interest including working with recreational to elite and high-performing athletes/high achieving individuals and eating psychopathology. During her APA-accredited internship, she worked alongside the sport psychologist at UMass, where she gained more experience working with athletes individually, in group settings, and piloting her dissertation to coaches. During her post-doc at UMass, she had more experience with adult ADHD testing and athletes, which has helped her with her Expert role at VoiceInSport by contributing to articles and groups on ADHD, body image, eating psychopathology, and REDs. At UConn Health, she works to enhance sports research and programming to improve overall holistic care for athletes, including those with eating psychopathology.

My approach to my work comes from an individual framework -- I believe each athlete is unique and it is my role to work hand-in-hand with the athlete to pave the path forward, pulling from my cultural-relational, integrated approach and various experiences with their story. I am passionate about enhancing the longevity in sport for females, which may change with the stages of life and various identities the athlete may hold. In my personal time, I enjoy endurance running and racing, traveling with my spouse, and spending time my with friends, family, and dog! I'm also an avid reader and enjoy connecting with others over stories.
